Norweigan Air are globally expanding under the management of co-founder, majority owner and chief executive, Bjorn Kjos. Opening new bases at airports throughout Europe, Norwegian Air Shuttle is creeping up on the likes of EasyJet, Ryanair and other low cost airlines.
And he's got big plans for the future⦠Mr Kjos is quickly expanding the firms fleet with modern and fuel efficient aircraft- what he believes to be essential in cutting costs. Norwegian has risen to be the 2nd largest airline in Scandinavia, the 3rd largest low cost airline in Europe, the 10th largest airline in Europe and the 10th largest low cost carrier in the world. The firm had 18 million customers last year- a number expected to soar as the fleet expands to be almost treble what it is now.
With great plans and already great success, what's Bjorn Kjos worried about? It's not the low cost rivals EasyJet and Ryanair, but the emergence of Asian low cost airlines such as Scoot and Air Asia. He predicts a wave of customers flying from the East. So what's his plan? Be there and do like the Asians do.
A great success story considering Mr Kjos is a retired fighter pilot turned lawyer and now the CEO of a hugely successful low cost carrier.
