China Eastern ‘makes history’ by purchasing a record number of Boeing jets

China Eastern are already a major Chinese airline, in fact they are the nation’s third biggest, and their recent announcement confirms that are about to get even bigger.

The airline have agreed to buy 80 737 Boeing jets, at an order value of $7.4 billion (based on list prices). According to a statement, the airline, based in Shanghai, will be able to fund the expansion using business operations and bank loans.

Boeing have confirmed that they receive the majority of orders from Chinese carriers, as news reveals that 50 per cent of commercial jetliners currently operating in China are Boeing planes.

Boeing’s vice president of sales and marketing, Ihssane Mounir, has said; ‘We look forward to making history with China Eastern as they are poised to make the largest purchase for single-aisle airplanes by a Chinese airline. We share an enduring partnership with China Eastern and we are excited to see that the 737 family of airplanes will play an important role in their continued success.’
