Bjørn Kjos – losing his cuddliness?

World Low Cost Airline Congress, Norwegian Air Shuttle,Ryanair, CEO, easyjet, market share

Norwegian Air Shuttle's results for 2012 really cemented their position as the Nordics most consistently profitable airline. 2013 is a big year for them, already in Q1 we have seen their operating losses turn round from a loss of USD99 million to profit of USD12 million.

At the helm of this seemingly non stop all conquering airline is Mr. Bjørn Kjos, former Norwegian air force pilot then lawyer who has overseen the transformation of the airline since 2002. Mr Kjos's savvy foresight has seen Norwegian become a force to be reckoned with, even competing with domineering low cost airline Ryanair.

He has been seen as a local hero, but recently he has been allegedly demanding local labour-law reforms and has undertaken cheap foreign hiring policies that have threatened to tarnish this image. Is Mr Kjos now a ruthless business man or simply an ambitious airline CEO who is prepared to be unpopular to thrash away the continuing threat from Ryanair & Easyjet?
