Airport and in-flight meals are fastest growing fees

In-flight and airport meals are fast becoming the largest fees for airlines according to data from PhoCusWright.

In the US, buying an in-flight meal has now become pretty much a necessity. However, rate of growth has only gone from 22 percent in 2009 to 30 percent in 2012.

Yet the fastest growing for passenger buying before boarding is priority boarding and extra legroom.

We're all pretty used to extra fees by now, despite not being quite prepared to pay for a toilet trip. And so what is the decision here? Buy before you depart or buy it at the airport/in-flight?

The former (obviously) as fees are usually dropped.

With this in mind, airlines are clocking on and getting better at selling online and those pesky (but often very useful) third party sites will no doubt have their say on this which means….increased fees for everybody!

Ta dah. What do you think? Is this the situation we're facing? Will all flight booking seem cheap in the beginning before you reach the end and are footed with the bill? Let me know what you think.
