Heathrow announced last week that the retail line up for its new Terminal 2 has been finalised. According to their press release, all 62 shops and restaurants were carefully selected based on passenger requests and the latest industry trends.
Other Heathrow terminals have consistently performed well in the retail space, with sales per square meter of £30,052. Even better for the passenger, “[e]very pound generated through the airport’s retail goes to reducing airport costs to airlines and in turn the ticket prices for passengers.” Sounds like a win-win, right?
Max Vialou-Clark, Heathrow’s Retail Director, stated “Terminal 2’s opening will introduce Heathrow passengers to a whole new experience when they fly with us… [W]e have really pushed the boundaries of what is expected from an airport.”
I’m a big fan of Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and its retail offerings, so I imagine Terminal 2 will be something to look forward to. That said, I’m not sure if I’d say that it was pushing the boundaries or a completely new experience. Most of the brands in the above list seem to be brands that are generally seen at airports, or at least at high end terminals like the afore-mentioned Terminal 5.
Still, I’d better get saving for the next time I find myself at the new Terminal 2 so that I can indulge in a little pre-flight shopping.
