AirAsia India operations to start in April

AirAsia CEO, Tony Fernandes has announced India operations are aimed to start in April.

Fernandes is at the World Economic Forum and made the announcement there.

AirAsia have set up a joint venture with Tata. Mittu Chandilya is the CEO of AirAsia’s Indian venture. The stakeholders also include Telstra Tradeplace.  In September last year, AirAsia India received a No Objection Certificate from the Civil Aviation Ministry to go ahead with operations.

AirAsia plans to operate a fleet of Airbus A320-200 aircraft, starting with four to five planes before expanding to ten within twelve months.

The airline was named the World’s Best Low Cost Airline in the Skytrax annual awards for five years in a row. Let’s hope they can maintain their great reputation and succeed in expanding to India.
