Who topped America's best airlines list?

Can you guess? Do you already know?

It was… Virgin Airlines of course. Virgin America is the highest-quality major airline in the United States, according to the 2013 Airline Quality Rating report.

Having only operated in the U.S. since 2007, we think this is quite an achievement! This is the first time it's been included in the AQR ratings and it came out top.

The AQR report has been conducted since 1991, authored by Dr. Dean Headley and Dr. Brent Bowen, both professors in the U.S. The concentrates on 4 criterion:

On-time arrivals- 83.5% of all flights arrived on time

Denied boardings- 0.07 ticketed passengers per 1,000 denied boarding

Mishandled bags- 0.87 bags per 1,000 passengers

Customer complaints- 1.5 per 1,000 passengers
