1 billion people in an underserved market, what opportunities are there in Africa? Last year at the World Low Cost Airlines Congress we saw David Lenigas (chairman) of Fastjet talking about their plans for the first Pan-African low-cost airline. Almost 8 months later and FastJet have since launched their first flights and developed a base in Tanzania as well as looking to expand into east Africa, Kenya, Angola and Ghana. The question still being is it possible to adapt the European LCC model to Africa?
This year at the World Low Cost Airlines Congress FastJet CEO Ed Winter will be discussing their initial stumbling blocks and the opportunities that are still available in this the last frontier for LCC's. Themes will include:
- Initial challenges faced setting up an African LCC
- Communication is key in educating the market
- Who are the key decision makers?
- Adapting the pure European Low Cost model for Africa
You can also download David's presentation from last year which outlines their strategy to build Africa's first true LCC.
